if its cheap shipping (such as in Canada which starts at about $2) then is it
worth the time to try and get the buyer to pay for shipping, then have payment
fees, possibly deal with taxes, etc
|
Yes, it is worth the time. Shipping in the US starts at ~ $4 and goes up from
there. Shipping is the same cost as it was the 1st time, just add in the 49 cent
Paypal per transaction fee and send a PayPal request, takes 10 seconds.
|
And what if taxes are involved? most places have online tax laws so you'd
also have to charge the buyer tax and then remit it
| | or just pay several $ out of pocket on extremely
rare occasions and as such providing great customer service? (and as mentioned
if it costs a lot on shipping then to charge them)
|
Why should a seller pay for this out of pocket? If you as a seller makes a mistake,
do you expect the buyer to pay for it? This is mollycoddling, not "great
customer service".
|
Nope, If a seller makes a mistake they cover it, if a buyer makes a mistake many
business still cover it (such as if you buy the wrong size clothing on amazon
you can still return it at the cost of amazon), I dont quite see how this is
"overprotective", it is good customer service and would make me want
to go back to that company in the future.
| How hard is it to have the correct shipping address?
|
quite, from experience (usually several times a month), people who move, often
times forget to update addresses or forget to write the apartment number on their
address, usually they message me after they place the order but before I ship
it out but not always. mistakes happen there isn't a need to try and go thru
the hassle of trying to figure out how a buyer can pay several $ and get things
potentially complicated with taxes when you can save yourself time and hassle
by simply buying a new shipping label (or a few stamps).

just a heads up you may want to change this "I’m not responsible for lost,
stolen or damaged packages." as the seller is fully responsible for the package
until its marked as delivered. (and if over $600 or something until its signed
for)

| Yes, in color, double sided. Still need to READ the color though as the color
pic is not always accurate.
I use it to pull the order, my checker uses it to check the order and pack it.
ALMOST eliminates mistakes, never had a complaint for including it.

When you get an order and ship it out, do you print out their order and put it
in the package, and if so do you use color or black and white. Or do you not
even put one at all? Currently, I print out one sided black and white and was
told by my significant other that looks bad and cheap. Thoughts?

I do, mostly because I use the check boxes to keep track of what I've pulled.
I'm sure if I had an iPad, I would just use that, but for now, I just have
a black and white printer.
I realize it's extra work, but I then double check on my PC for the correct
color and amount. I've caught mistakes that I've made pulling the parts
for color (which probably would be fixed if I had a color printed) and for part
count. Knock on wood, it's been a very long time since I've had a complaint
for missing something.
I'm sure most people don't care for the invoice, but I have gotten a
couple positive feedbacks thanking me for it.
I have my store capped at 75 lots (due to having to travel almost full time for
my job), but when I had unlimited lots, if the printed invoice pushed an order
over a weight threshold, I wouldn't bother.

We send along the checklist used to process the order. Both order item and amount
are checked off with a bright highlighter. Printed in black (not color) at 80%
size to save on printer ink and paper costs, which is further trimmed of unprinted
surface before neatly folding no more than once, so that it's easy for the
order recipient to unfold and view.
There are other efforts we make that go to presentation. It's important,
presentation. Just how we and some other vendors I know and respect, have done
it. That said, as a buyer I don't expect nor really care that much, as long
as the order is properly packaged.

then they've got to pay to ship again.

I keep it simple and use small Avery labels (same I use for barcode scanner).
Like most have stated all you need is the order number attached.
|
Nice idea!

technically speaking you usually dont have to but realistically its simpler for
everyone involved to contact the buyer for the correct address then reship it
out at your expense as it isn't something that happens to often (unless shipping
is really expensive)

Much more, with some international shipping methods (at least here) the seller
is invoiced for the parcel to be shipped back. Buyer could also have to pay for
this.

odd question but is there any automated way to do this?
|
To what, to make this kind of stats?
Sure, using the APIs.
Or one may try for example to copy the Orders Placed page and make some VBA in
Excel to analyze the clipboard and populate / update a table and calculate the
numbers you wish?
Gonna take some time to craft...
Easiest, open a spreadsheet and like every day point your orders manually
