Yes, "less interesting" was perhaps an unfair characterization. I should
say, the more monotonic livery!
Strange as it seems, this was the set I had in mind, hence the longing for a
trans-green canpoy.

haha ok, I'll give you the 'monochrome' part...but it was the early
80's, there weren't a lot of colors then!
I forgot they did slopes, bricks, and panels in the trans-green in the series,
but the windscreens then were the more square looking 4474 6x4x2 like on the
Blacktron Invader. Anything like you're looking for didn't appear until
Space Police II, so that's more what I was getting at.

| Yeah, it slipped my mind they did some of the smaller windscreens in the trans-green
for later sets. Still wasn't until Space Police II that they came in the
10x4x2 needed here, though.

I'm currently working on a redux version of the mobile lab; I just can't
seem to come up with a nice update for the wheels.

The Classic Space one pretty much nails the scheme, and the Blacktron I version
is great, as well!
I second the Ice Planet idea, and will also say Space Police I and Blacktron
II would be great for it, as well.
Definitely given me ideas!

Though most of the early sets had the trans-yellow or trans-blue pieces; it
wasn't until Futuron (I think) when they went with the trans-green.
|
Before Futuron:
There already was White+Black+Trans-Blue sets before this one.
This set mixed both the Blue+LG+Trans-Yellow and White+Black+Trans-Blue schemes:

As for suggestions on the green canopy, they did make
that could work, though you'd have to change the connect point...

Have to agree with the consensus, the Blacktron version is amazing. Takes me
back to my youth as I had the 6894-Invader set and a few others. Nice work.

Ice Planet maybe?
|
That's one! I think I have a
somewhere to get me started.
The gray ship in my original post is suppossed to be a nod to the less interesting
classic space livery of gray with hints of red (wheel hubs) and trans-green windows.
I know it's a long shot, but my fingers are crossed that LEGO may some day
produce a
in trans-green that I can use on that ship.

Thanks, it was definitely a fun one to brainstorm. I went sort of crazy with
it and parted out a bunch of
just so I could get my hands on some
and
for the solar panels, but I think it was worth it! It echoes the original Invader
quite nicely.

This is really unfortunate. I wonder if the change in packaging has anything
to do with this. Poly bags really didn't allow for much jostling, the boxes
seem to rattle quite a bit.
Thank you for posting your results here.
Also, it is refreshing to see a new seller so conscientious about doing things
correctly. Keep up the good work and never stop learning.

I do my best. I’ll be contacting Lego sometime later today though and we’ll see
what happens

So, do you believe it is the ink from the instructions? Do you feel it is possible
to be cleaned off without damaging the printing?

Sadly this is becoming more common, so call up LEGO and ask for a new one.

Once again LEGO speeding up production, putting not fully dried instructions
into the box staining the part
